Sadly I’m too far away to visit (though I’d love to!). I realised that the name of your blog comes from the name of the road. Do you know why it is called Federal Twist Road? It’s intriguing!

No one really knows. George Washington’s troops were all over this place during the revolution, as were Hessian troops. We used to speculate it had something to do with the Revolutionary War. I’ve since heard another speculation. The Delaware and Raritan Canal along the Delaware was dug by Irish laborers in the 1830s. There is a story that their favorite chewing tobacco was the Federal Twist brand. I think that story may be true.
